11.6 Inch MacBook Air

by on Oct.20, 2010, under Technology

Apple announced today a new 11.6″ MacBook Air, it will retail for $999 according to this Engadget article.

The Specs for what is basically Apple’s addition to the Netbook market are:

dual-core 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU (upgradeable to 1.6GHz)

1366 x 768 resolution screen

64GB SSD (upgradeable to 128GB)

2GB or 4GB DDR3 RAM options

NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics card.

What I don’t quite get is who this device is supposed to be for… At $999 it is waaay above the average price of a netbook. (And most full size  laptops) And if you are an Apple fan, wouldn’t you just get an iPad for your trips down to the coffee shop?

Not that I wouldn’t want to own one, but $1000 buys a lot of stuff these days.

EPIC & UDK <3 iOS devices.

The president of EPIC Games Mark Rein recently posted on his twitter account the following:

“Soon we will be able to count mobile applications as well as we announced UDK will be able to generate iOS applications!”

This is huge news for indy developers that are familiar with the Unreal Development Kit and looking to bring their projects to mobile platforms. It is even bigger news for  iPhone/Pad gamers, as surely this will bring about a slew of new top-notch games.

For an example of what UDK can do on an iOS device, take a look at Epic Citadel

Netflix iPhone App is out!

by on Aug.26, 2010, under Technology

The Netflix iPhone app is out and it works surprisingly well on my two generation old iPhone 3g. My office does not get a strong 3G signal, and there is no WiFi here, but I was able to stream an episode of Family Guy with only a small amount of buffering.

I have used the Netflix app on the iPad, and the video looks a bit crisper on the smaller iPhone screen. If you have a NetFlix account and an iPhone there is really no reason to not get this free app.

The Case against Antennagate

by on Jul.16, 2010, under Technology

Steve Jobs just announced at the Apple iPhone4 press conference that they are going to give everyone a free case to make their iPhones work…. Ok. Good for them.

You shouldn’t need a case to make the the device work properly. I love the design of the new iPhone. The metal sides and thin frame sold me when Gizmodo posted the stolen prototype they bought. I don’t have a case on my iPhone G, nor did I have one on my iPhone 1. I don’t want a thick plastic shell creating a bulge in my pocket. I am an adult and can be careful enough not to worry about dropping it… To say that I need a case on my phone if I want better reception is a joke.

Make the phone itself better.

Antennagate?

by on Jul.16, 2010, under Technology

Apple is holding a press conference today about the iPhone4′s antenna issues. Steve Jobs is up on stage showing video’s of other manufacturer’s phones dropping bars when held in specific ways… Apple is claiming that phones arn’t perfect and the entire industry should strive to be better.

Personally I think that is bullshit. The problem is that the function of making a phone call on a modern smart phone is no longer priority no.1 Getting served a healthy portion of advertisement banners is more important to the bottom line.

More after the jump…

Steve Jobs vs The Flash

by on Jul.08, 2010, under Technology

Everything about this picture pertains to my interests… I hope that one day Steve loses to Flash in real life, like he would if he tussled with the crimson speedster in a comic book.

I love my iPhone, but it’s only giving me 75% of the internet right now.

iPhone4 Launch – Dropped Calls?

by on Jun.24, 2010, under Technology

More news for iPhone4 launch day, Gizmodo & Engadget have both received reports that holding the new phone with your left hand can cause dropped calls and signal strength to disappear. I love new product launch days… gadgets get built up to be like the coming of a messiah, and then you find out you can’t hold it if you want to use it. I’m sometimes glad I’m too broke to be an early adopter.
